Tree House Rock
All Natural is comprised of mc capital D, and dj Tone b. Nimble. Hailing from the city of Chicago Tone and Dave have been together as a group since the 80’s and has spent a lot of time building a name for them. Chicago’s critically acclaimed duo and founders of the record label All Natural Inc. (est.1997); All Natural gained worldwide recognition with the release of their first album, No Additives, No Preservatives in 1997. The album included the hip hop classics “50 Years” and “It’s O.K.” All Natural released their sophomore album Second Nature in 2001 and received accolades once again for creating a solid full-length album of conscience lyrics and innovative beats. With cap D’s conversion to Islam, it was thought they would no longer make music, but with the release of capital D’s solo album “Writer’s Block the Movie” in October 2002 we see that the crew is far from being done. While Tone focuses on running the label (All Natural Inc.), and keeping the Family Tree a float, cap is working on a degree in law. Keeping a hand in making good music will always remain a priority for the Chicago hip hop role models.
Daily Plannet is the genius of twin brothers Allstar the Fabulous, and Spotlite the Big Idea with Status. Born and raised in Gary, In., the Daily P along with their childhood friend Tone the Strategist are the only members of the Family Tree that did not grow up in Chicago or it’s surrounding suburbs. The Daily Plannet started rhyming and performing back 1986 and met Tone b. Nimble, and capital D in the early 90’s. After appearing on No Additives, No Preservatives, Allstar was considered a quality mc and protégé of All Natural. With the release of All Natural’s Second Nature and the Family Tree’s own A Close Knit Family, the Daily Plannet began to earn credibility from songs like “Queens Get the Money” and “Paragon”. The release of their first 12 inch as an individual group in 2002 entitled “We Like to Party” and “Continuous”, has brought them out from under All Natural’s name and strongly promotes All Natural Inc. as a label that puts out good records overall. XLR8R Magazine writes, \"This is simply tight, flavorful, ageless hip hop: exactly what more do you need to know?” “We Like to Party” is a pretty pleasant rhythm and appropriate starter to all festivities.” (Boom-Bap.com). The Daily Plannet is set to build on that success and release their next 12 inch, “Why You Wanna”, early 2003 with the full length album “Team Daily” scheduled for release summer 2003.
Iomos Marad is the solo mc/drummer of the Family Tree. Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Iomos brings pure talent and creativity to the mic and stage. After spending years earning his stripes as a prolific performer on the streets, and underground el stations of Chicago, Iomos linked with All Natural and released his first 12 inch, Deep Rooted & The Mic in 2001. He deservingly received props for his lyrics and delivery on both tunes. Along with his recorded skills I O continues to excel with his live shows, blending the live rudiments of classic drum breaks with his own freestyle vitality. Iomos will released his second 12 inch L.I.F.E. during the summer of 2002. Once again showcasing his innovative musical ways and conscious lyrics. He earned praise and love from such magazines as XXL, and Muzik. He’s the most versatile member of the Family Tree and raises the bar whenever, and wherever he shines.
Mr. Greenweedz is the Knotty Vegetarian of the Tree and solo mc. He got his start in the mid 80’s on the West side of Chicago, and hasn’t stopped. After achieving as a solo mc, and releasing the 12 inch Some Love, he joined his long time friends All Natural and the Family Tree. Weedz is the gray mattering, battle rhyming, eclectic, horticulturalist with the mic. He’s seen as one of the essential members of the Fam Tree bringing unmatchable energy and spontaneity to the team. Mr. Greenweedz also performs and tours with the Grammy award winning funk band Liquid Soul as their mc, showing his diversity and artistry on the stage and the mic. G-dub dropped his latest 12 inch “Driven” and “It’s a Shame” in late 2001. Greenweedz also contributed to the A Close Knit Family project with two blazing tracks and the to the Planting Seeds cd with the gem Elegba’s Drum. As a solo mc, and as a member of the Family Tree and Liquid Soul, Mr. Greenweedz has collected fame and fans across the globe.
The Family Tree remains a focused crew of mc’s and with the production of G(riot), they satisfy a variety of listeners. With passionate beats that create a utopia-like atmosphere his sounds and production along with cap D and Tone b enhances the utility of the Family Tree, and gives their artist a distinct sound. G(riot) will soon release a collection of instrumental 12 inches leading up to the release of his album Works in Progress.
Growing up it the south suburbs of Chicago, Rita J has been rooted in music as a child, thanks to her mother and father. She met Iomos and he invited her to record a song with him and the rest is history. After hearing her extreme style and flavor, Iomos brought her to the table to join the Family Tree. Once all her new big brothers heard her, it was a no question. She was a perfect fit with the Family. It was as if she had been separated from them at birth. Rita J will appear on the Daily Plannet’s album “Team Daily”, but will first rock the mic and show her skills on the new Family Tree album “Tree House Rock”, which will hit stores spring of 2003. Rita J will continue to work on her first solo release as she tours and learns the ropes with her Family Tree brothers.
For lyrics, conscious, hardcore, or flavorful and beats dramatic, boom-bap, or just innovative the Family Tree is the name of reference. The Tree looks to be regarded in the same manner as crews of old such as the Native Tongue or the Juice Crew. While producing songs as individuals or groups, the Tree will continue to record songs as a cohesive unit. Even with two projects completed and celebrated, the Tree will drop the new album Tree House Rocks, in 2003. Staying busy and focusing on the craft of providing good music the Family Tree should be viewed as one of the stand out crews of modern hip hop.
